BBL (Broadband Light)
therapy treats the skin by using short blasts of high intensity light to rejuvenate damaged skin. It is not a surgical procedure, and the recovery time is extremely short. BBL is similar to laser therapy, but laser therapy uses a single wavelength of light, while BBL uses multiple wavelengths, resulting in the ability to treat a larger area of skin in a shorter period of time. BBL therapy is one of the quickest, most effective and safe ways to get skin that you can truly feel confident in, and it has a variety of uses and benefits.
1. Can Target A Variety of Skin Problems
BBL treatment is used for many reasons, including:
- Acne and acne scars
- Birthmarks
- Rosacea
- Hyperpigmentation
- Scars
- Blood vessels
- Stretch marks
- Sun damaged skin
- Loose, sagging skin
- Unwanted hair
- Jowls
- “Turkey” necks
IPL laser treatment specifically targets these issues by using multiple wavelengths of light to accurately target and remove damaged skin cells or hair follicles.
2. Easy to Combine with Other Treatments
BBL treatment can be performed in conjunction with other skin treatments, such as chemical peels and other treatments that target the outermost layer of the skin. IPL treatment targets the deepest layers of the skin, so it can be safely performed with other treatments that target the outermost layer of the skin.
3. Quick Treatment
BBL treatment typically takes between 15-30 minutes, but the length and frequency of sessions needed will be different for each individual. However, these sessions are easily able to fit into a busy lifestyle or someone who is always on the go.
4. Short Recovery Period
Immediately following the treatment, the affected area will look red or pink, which typically lasts between 4-8 hours. Some people have noticed a stinging sensation, similar to a mild sunburn, 4-6 hours after their IPL treatment. A wet washcloth or ice pack can help to ease the discomfort. Swelling can also occur after BBL treatment, and it usually lasts for several days after the procedure.
5. Helps Minimize Signs of Aging
BBL is not an anti-aging solution, but it does have lasting effects to help reduce some of the signs of aging including wrinkles, sun spots, and other signs of aging skin. IPL laser treatment stimulates collagen growth and works to improve the texture of the skin, which reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
At The Derm Institute of West Michigan, we use The Sciton BroadBand Light (BBL) machine, the world’s most powerful IPL device on the market. It sets new standards in treating skin conditions associated with aging, active lifestyles, and sun damage.
