Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria Clinical Trial (18+)

Clinical studies (also called clinical trials) are used to learn about the safety and effectiveness of new medications, medical devices, and medical procedures. Although there are many types of clinical trials, all must conform to strict rules set by local regulatory authorities. These rules help protect the rights and safety of those who volunteer to take part in clinical trials.

If you choose to join the study, you will receive all study-related care and medication at no cost. Health insurance is not required to participate.

Yes, there are 2 treatment periods in the study. In the first study treatment period (4 months), you will have a 2 in 3 chance of receiving the active investigational medication, or a placebo (an identical-looking medication, but with no active ingredient). Neither you nor your doctor will know which medication you receive. This is a common technique in clinical studies, as it helps doctors and researchers understand the effects of the investigational medication without bias.

After this 4-month period, you will start the second treatment period - where everyone will receive only the active investigational medication for an additional 4 months, and your study team will continue to track your progress.

The study lasts about 10 months. During this time, you will meet with your study doctor up to 15 times. These visits are an important part of the study, as they allow your study doctor to closely monitor your hand eczema symptoms, and also discuss your overall experience. You may also be reimbursed for your travel time to attend these study visits.

At every visit, you will be asked about how you are feeling, and your study doctor will examine your hand eczema symptoms as well as ask you to complete some questionnaires. In addition, at 4 of the visits you will provide a routine blood sample for safety tests.

Before you decide to participate, your study team will provide you with a detailed summary of what will happen at each visit, so that you can make an informed decision about joining the study.

As with all clinical studies, your participation is completely voluntary. You may leave the study at any time without any effect on your future medical care.
