Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria (CSU) Clinical Trial - Chronic Hives

The cycle of chronic hives, also called chronic urticaria, can seem like it occupies every part of life. When the itching keeps coming back, it can feel like a never-ending struggle, even with treatment. That is why we are conducting a trial for those diagnosed with chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU).

Symptoms:
•    Itchy, raised welts or hives that come and go
•    Angioedema (swelling under the skin), often around the eyes, lips, hands, or feet
•    Welts or hives may last less than 24 hours, but new ones can appear daily
•    No consistent trigger; symptoms seem to happen “spontaneously”

Causes:

In CSU, the immune system mistakenly activates mast cells, which release histamine and other chemicals, causing inflammation and hives. The exact cause is often unknown, but in some cases it may be linked to:
•    Autoimmune disorders
•    Stress
•    Infections
•    Hormonal changes

Diagnosis:

There is no single test for CSU. Diagnosis is mostly based on:
•    Symptom history (duration, frequency, and appearance of hives)
•    Rule out other causes (like allergies or infections)
•    Blood tests or skin tests, if needed, to exclude other conditions

CSU is not contagious or life-threatening, but it can be frustrating and affect quality of life. For many people, the condition resolves over time, though it may take months or years.

About the CSU Trial:

This clinical trial will evaluate the efficacy of remibrutinib in comparison to dupilumab in treating adult participants who have chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) that is not adequately controlled with antihistamines. The study drug is an oral medication taken twice a day and is being compared to an injection given every two weeks.
