Observational Study for Atopic Dermatitis (12+)
We’re looking for participants aged 12 and older who have moderate-to-severe Atopic Dermatitis to join a study exploring a new therapy.
Atopic dermatitis, commonly known as eczema, is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that affects millions of people. Unlike childhood eczema, teen and adult atopic dermatitis often presents with unique challenges and requires specialized care approaches.
This condition goes beyond simple dry skin, it's a complex immune system response that causes persistent inflammation, intense itching, and skin barrier dysfunction. While it may have started in childhood for some, others experience their first symptoms during adolescence or adulthood.
Physical Symptoms:
- Persistent, intense itching that worsens at night
- Red, inflamed patches of skin
- Dry, scaly, or thickened skin areas
- Small, raised bumps that may leak fluid when scratched
- Raw, sensitive skin from scratching
Common Locations:
- Face and neck
- Hands and wrists
- Inner elbows and behind knees
- Ankles and feet
The condition often follows a pattern of flare-ups and periods of improvement, making it essential to work with healthcare professionals who understand these cycles.
Causes:
Atopic dermatitis results from a combination of factors that work together to trigger and maintain inflammation:
- Genetic factors: Family history of eczema, asthma, or allergies increases your likelihood of developing the condition.
- Immune system dysfunction: An overactive immune response causes inflammation even when there's no real threat to the skin.
- Skin barrier problems: The skin's natural protective barrier becomes compromised, allowing irritants and allergens to penetrate more easily.
- Environmental triggers: Common triggers include stress, certain fabrics, harsh soaps, weather changes, and specific allergens.
Understanding your personal triggers is key to managing symptoms effectively and preventing flare-ups before they become severe.
By joining this clinical trial, not only will you help uncover new solutions for atopic dermatitis, but you’ll also gain expert care and resources to better manage your condition.
