Psoriasis & Obesity Clinical Trial (18+)
We’re enrolling participants for a clinical trial to test a new combination therapy for Moderate-to-Severe Plaque Psoriasis and Obesity. If you’re 18+ and have been living with plaque psoriasis for at least 6 months, we want to hear from you!
Psoriasis is a chronic condition that accelerates skin cell growth, causing red, scaly patches that can be both painful and exhausting to manage. Research has shown that obesity is not only a trigger but can also worsen psoriasis symptoms, creating a frustrating cycle that impacts your quality of life. This clinical trial focuses on exploring a new treatment designed specifically for individuals managing both conditions.
Symptoms:
• Red patches of skin covered with thick, silvery scales
• Dry, cracked skin that may bleed or itch
• Itching, burning, or soreness in affected areas
• Thickened, pitted, or ridged nails
• Stiff and swollen joints, which may indicate psoriatic arthritis
• Small scaling spots, often seen in children
These symptoms can vary in severity and presentation from person to person, making it essential to seek professional evaluation for accurate diagnosis and appropriate management.
Causes:
Psoriasis is a multifactorial condition, and while its exact cause is not fully understood, research points to several contributing factors, including:
• Genetics – A family history of psoriasis can increase the likelihood of developing the condition, as specific genetic markers linked to the immune system may play a role.
• Immune System Dysfunction – Psoriasis is largely driven by an overactive immune system, where T-cells mistakenly attack healthy skin cells, leading to rapid skin cell turnover and inflammation.
• Environmental Triggers – External factors, such as infections, stress, skin injuries, or certain medications, can trigger or worsen psoriasis symptoms.
• Hormonal Changes – Hormonal fluctuations, particularly during puberty or menopause, may impact the severity of psoriasis in some individuals.
• Lifestyle Factors – Smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and obesity are associated with an increased risk of psoriasis or exacerbation of its symptoms.
Obesity plays a notable role in both the onset and progression of psoriasis. Excess body weight is associated with systemic inflammation, which can worsen the skin and joint symptoms characteristic of the condition. Additionally, adipose tissue produces inflammatory substances called cytokines, which may exacerbate the inflammatory pathways underlying psoriasis. Evidence also suggests that psoriasis is more common in individuals with obesity, potentially due to hormonal imbalances and mechanical stresses on the skin. Addressing obesity through healthy weight management can be a critical component of a comprehensive psoriasis treatment plan, often resulting in symptom improvement and reduced inflammation.
By joining this clinical trial, not only will you help uncover new solutions for psoriasis and obesity, but you’ll also gain expert care and resources to better manage your condition.
