Microneedling with or without PRP
Fight skin damage with the power of your own immune system. Microneedling uses precisely targeted skin pricks (light pricks after use of numbing cream) that stimulate your skin to produce more collagen. That collagen helps reduce wrinkles, shrink pores, and alleviate acne scarring and sun damage. The result? Firmer, baby-smooth skin!
Additionally, platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) can be used to enhance results and reduce downtime by using growth factors from your own blood. We usually recommend 3 treatments, a month apart. The treatment is highly effective but requires aftercare - particularly lots of hydration to combat the temporary redness that appears a day or so after the procedure, and spf to protect your newly treated skin.
Our office uses the SkinPen, the only FDA-approved microneedling device, and our patients love the results. In fact, 90% of SkinPen users in the clinical trial say they would recommend the procedure to family and friends. Stop by our office to learn more.
Benefits of Microneedling
- Collagen and Elastin Production: The micro-injuries stimulate the skin’s healing process, leading to increased collagen and elastin production.
- Improved Skin Texture: Helps smooth out rough or uneven skin.
- Reduction in Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles over time.
- Minimized Pores: Can make pores appear smaller.
- Improved Absorption of Skin Care Products: The microchannels created by the needles can enhance the absorption of topical products.
What to Expect
- Procedure: A specialized device with fine needles is rolled or pressed over the skin to create controlled micro-injuries.
- Duration: The procedure usually takes about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the treatment area.
- Pain: A topical numbing cream is often applied beforehand to minimize discomfort.
- Downtime: There might be some redness and mild swelling similar to a sunburn for a few days. Most people can resume normal activities within a day or two.
Comparison with Microneedling with PRP
Microneedling with PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) involves applying PRP, derived from the patient’s own blood, to the skin after microneedling. PRP is believed to enhance the healing process and improve results. While both methods are effective, PRP may provide additional benefits such as faster healing and more pronounced improvements in skin quality.
Microneedling without PRP is a popular and effective treatment on its own, especially for those who prefer a simpler procedure or are looking for a more budget-friendly option.
